During last week, we had Isabelle Neill and Christophe Blanc round at our house, filling our lounge with cameras, microphones, and lighting equipment making a promotional video for our Africa trip - we are HUGELY grateful to them for their skill, the loan of their equipment, and for giving up their evening to help us with this. We'll post the video on this blog, and on our website/Facebook when it is done. It'll also be shown at Woodlands Church, Bristol on Jan 12th 2014 so if you're interested in hearing a bit more about what we are doing, come along, watch it and hear what we have to say (probably a lot).
Lina Medical Services Ambulance
Around 2 weeks ago now, we began looking for a vehicle suitable for use in Nairobi as an Ambulance - a project we are doing on behalf of Lina Medical Services.
As many of you know, we are preparing an Ambulance in the UK, and exporting it to Kenya fully equipped to assist in the day to day work of Lina, as well as providing an Emergency response Ambulance Service, and an outreach capability for going into the slum.
This will help us/them to provide free healthcare for those in the slum who cannot afford essential vaccinations etc.
We began looking at vehicles that were 'low budget' 2007 vehicles which to be honest were not really fit for purpose. We had our eye on another vehicle - a Land Rover Defender which was totally fit for purpose and used to belong to the National Grid.
We rang up to ask the price, and found that it was a lot over what we had anticipated and was well above budget so we left it.
About a week after that, we received a large donation, in addition to some smaller donations which allowed us to actually purchase the vehicle we had been looking for. It can only be described as perfect for the job!!
As we speak, the vehicle is at a workshop getting fitted with its blue/red lights/siren systems, internal lighting and livery - which is very exciting. All done for us free of charge by SV LIGHTS in support of this project. We are also in contact with a number of other companies, and the local Ambulance service who have promised to provide us with supplies, and equipment for the interior, and this weekend Andy will begin manufacturing the interior for the vehicle.
We are so excited about the finished product, and will be unveiling it to the head of Lina Medical Services when she visits England in March, just before we go to Burundi to start the first 6 months of our trip. Shammah Medical Clinic & Tour du Burundi
In relation to our Burundi trip, we have just begun drafting letters, requesting sponsorship on behalf of Shammah Medical Clinic/Great Lakes Outreach - your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated on this, as this will be out best source of funds for them.
The Tour du Burundi cycle ride which Andy is taking part in (400 miles over 7 days) will also help to fund Shammah Medical Clinic, as well as our work with Lina Medical Services. If you would like to sponsor him please get in touch - we need all the sponsorship we can get to be honest.
